ACCESSIBILITY: From the center of the town of San Pedro de Vilcabamba, (canton and province of Loja) one can reach “El Bosque” by 4-WDcar (40 minutes) or on horseback (2 hours).
El Bosque is not a tourism operator but visitors with varied objectives are welcome to make prior arrangements by contacting Joy.
Student and scientific visitors are most welcome for short or extended stays up to several months. You will be given access to gates and lodging, an orientation, and from there will be mostly on your own for transportation and other services such as food, etc. Our only requirement is that the rules of conduct are observed, and upon finishing the work, a copy of your publication be donated to our library. Research projects involving 3 or more investigators or having a duration of 3 or more months will be required to have a counterpart staff from a local university.
Retreats and youth groups are welcome for overnight stays, requiring accompaniment by our personnel to have access to gates, roads, and the main house, which can accommodate a surprising number of people, up to 30 youths have been comfortable, bringing their own sleeping bags and tents for those who are more hardy. A fee may be required to cover logistics and coordination.
Day visitors and overnight lodging can be available through advance reservation, for such activities as hiking, nature photography, and fishing. Subject to availability, a fee is charged for this type of visit.
All visitors should be aware that the owners and management of El Bosque can take no liability for accidents, damages, or other inconveniences. Every visitor will be required to sign acknowledgement of the rules and waiver of liability.
